EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

Why the Executive Council Matters

The Executive Council is the most powerful executive board in the state and affects your life & freedoms in many ways.

Like a Town Council for the State, the Executive Council approves all contracts over $10,000 and approves all governor nominations for state boards and departments.

A leftover from colonial government, the Executive Council also represents the first flicker of democracy in America. Locally chosen councilors served as a check and balance against the tyranny of the king’s appointed governor.

In recent years, we have witnessed unprecedented erosion of balance and bipartisanship on the Council. The current Council has voted to defund women’s reproductive health centers that provide critical services, including pre-cancer screenings and birth control. They have also rejected Federal dollars for common sense, sex education; and approved unethical state appointments who seek to delegitimize and politicize public schools by siphoning public tax dollars for private special interests.

When Executive Councilors reject Federal funding — whether for women’s healthcare, infrastructure, or public education — they betray middle-class taxpayers by refusing to bring hard-earned tax dollars back to the communities they came from.

The current Council is woefully out of touch with ordinary New Hampshire citizens and working families. They allow personal politics and special interests to dictate their decisions.

They are not doing their jobs.

The Executive Council’s job is to protect and represent all of their constituents. We must demand Councilors who will do the job right. The Executive Council should be your check and balance against the governor, and protect your individual liberties from overreach by executive authority.

This means Councilors should  listen to all voters, whether they voted for you or not, and work in good faith to balance the will of the majority with individual interests. That’s what I’ll do as your Executive Councilor.
